AMAZON EXPEDITION

DAY 1
ARRIVAL
We will receive you at the airport or bus station and we will embark to Hacienda Herrera together, travelling about 20 minutes by boat on the Madre de Dios river. After the arrival we will show you your room, give you some general information about your stay and you will be able to get some rest before your first discovery activity!
VISIT TO OUR ORGANIC AMAZONIAN FARM
During the visit to our farm you will learn about amazonian organic agroforestry and appreciate different plantations of tropical cultures, such as plantains, papaya, guaba, cacao, starfruit, mango, acerola, pineapple, sugar cane, oranges, mandarines and lemons, avocado, caimito, cocona, amazonian chili pepper, and yuca. Of course according to the seasonal availability you will also get a taste of them!

KAYAKING IN THE MADRE DE DIOS RIVER
Kayaking in an Amazonian river is an activity that will profoundly nurture your connection with the rainforest. All we have to do is paddle downstream the Madre de Dios river and enjoy the breathtaking sensation of paddling in the Amazon basin. As you cruise down the river, you might also see wildlife in the riverside vegetation.
After a couple hours of fun paddling in the river, we'll get back upstream by boat to the Hacienda Herrera.

NIGHT WALK IN THE FOREST
During our night walk we'll try to find nocturnal wildlife, such as insects, spiders, tarantulas and frogs well camouflaged in the dark vegetation, if we're lucky a snake or night monkeys. The night walk is a wonderful experience as we'll see the the forest under a completely different perspective.

DAY 2
INTERPRETIVE TRAIL
We will hike our 3-km trail system in the middle of the forest to observe flora and fauna. We will also meet important trees such as shihuahuacos or iron wood, lupunas or ceiba, castaña or brazil nut trees, cedrus trees, caobas, ajosquiros and palm trees, such as cashaponas or walking palms, aguajes, ponas, shapajas, palmichis and ñejas. During our walk we will also meet insects and butterflies and if we get lucky we might encounter monkeys, brown agutis, frogs, and even sloths.

ROLIN ISLAND
Located approximately 45 minutes from Hacienda Herrera, we will visit Isla Rolin, better known as Isla de los Monos as it is home to several species of monkeys. Here we will immerse ourselves in a natural environment where you can learn about different ecosystems of the island, birds and other animal species, such as alligators, herons, capybara and turtles.

CANOPY TREE-CLIMBING ON MOTHER TREE
Climbing on an Amazonian Mother Tree is a very profound experience which will make you feel truly a part of the forest around you! From our 25-meter Lupuna platform you will enjoy a unique experience and the wonderful view of the forest from above. Once at the top, you will be able to take photos and, if we're lucky, appreciate the birds and wildlife that live in the forest canopy.

RIVER BY NIGHT
After sunset we'll get out on the boat to experience the river by night and, with a bit of luck, to spot small caimans and capybaras on the river banks. Being in the river at night time is also a great opportunity to enjoy a breathtaking view of the stars and the moon!

DAY 3
TAMBOPATA NATIONAL RESERVE - LAKE SANDOVAL
One of the most beautiful lakes of the Peruvian Amazon and pearl of the Tambopata National Reserve, Lake Sandoval is home to giant river otters, caimans, different species of monkeys, turtles, a great variety of bird species and butterflies. Our visit will start with a 3km hike in the middle of the reserve to reach the lake. Then we will slowly cruise on a row boat close to the lakeside vegetation trying to spot as many animals as we can surrounded by a wonderful landscape.

AMAZONIAN COOKING CLASS
Ready to boost your cooking skills? During the class you will participate hands-on in the preparation of a full amazonian dinner! You will be preparing dishes such as plantain soup, patacones, filled yuca, tacacho with cecina, chili sauces, patarashca. The ingredients used for the class will be mostly seasonal, some of which will be freshly harvested from our organic farm.

DAY 4
CACHUELA PARROT CLAY LICK
We will leave the Hacienda Herrera at 5am to ride about 45minutes by boat upstream and reach the clay lick when parrots are most active. The collpa Cachuela is the perfect spot for bird lovers to see parrots and parakeets, such as yellow-fronted parrot, mealy parrot and occasionally the blue-headed macaw and other small macaws. We'll have breakfast on the boat as we continue observing the clay lick activity while enjoying the dawn!

RETURN TO THE CITY
We will return to the city by boat at the end of your last excursion, generally by late morning.
